Requests

Michibiki doesn't seem to have a house, per se, but he does have a mailbox in the community center. If you leave him a note, he's sure to get to it within a day or two!

Here's where you can request things from the mayor, such as items or fun events in Farethere like 'snow in July' or 'giant bouncy castle'. You can also request a meeting with him if you want to chat one-on-one!

You've just moved to Farethere City.

It's a lovely town with everything you could need to live a happy life. There are shops, a library, a hospital... What's more, anything you can't find in Farethere City itself, it's only a short walk on a Mushroad to another town to acquire, or perhaps you can take a trip on the bus to the Night Market. Or you can ask the mayor for it, whether it's 'I need somewhere to buy a very specific flower' or 'I think it'd be great if we had snow tomorrow'.

Yes, it's possible to be perfectly tranquil in Farethere City. And if you have the occasional distressing dream that seems oddly like a memory, or some of the places you visit seem bizarre and unnatural... surely that means nothing?

It's not like you're dead, or anything like that. And even if you were, wouldn't you want to stay?

So what's this about?

Farethere Dressing Room is a slice-of-life-ish DR based on the RPGmaker game Farethere City, and freely spoils for it.

In this dressing room, your newly-dead character has 'moved' to a city designed by its caretaker to be as pleasant as possible - 'heaven', if we were to use that term.

Your character doesn't know they're dead. In fact, they also don't know their real name and their appearance - they have a different body and name (picked out by you!) until the point where they 'become aware'/remember their death, whereupon they'll revert to their actual appearance and everyone will think they've been calling them by their real name this whole time.

(If that seems confusing - Karakoro was Shouta when he was alive, but only returns to looking like a human and using that name when he realizes he's dead. Of course, this is panfandom RP, so your character's real appearance may not be human in the first place.)

They'll have dreams and regain memories related to their death over time, at a pace decided by their player. Don't want to have them realize they're dead at all? That's just fine! Exist in tranquility and be happy.

When they do come to realize they're dead, they have two options, presented to them by the mayor. They can continue to live in Farethere City, and 'life' will go on for them as normal. Everyone will think they've always looked that way and used that name, and they can continue their peaceful days.

Or, they can choose to walk the Path to Rebirth. This is a very difficult and dangerous path, and very few people ever manage to reach the end and reincarnate. It also amounts to a permanent drop from the dressing room... and being forgotten by those remaining in the city. It would be impossible to explain their sudden disappearance, after all.

(If you'd like to drop without your character being forgotten, that's an option too - they can move to a different town. There are plenty of gardens with different caretakers, and while not all of them are as nice as Farethere, the mayor will assure everyone that they're in good hands.)

The one immutable rule the mayor puts over the town is that you can't tell a person who doesn't know they're dead yet that they're dead. That would just cause chaos, and the whole point of Farethere is to have a peaceful existence.

What was that about other towns?

Travel to other towns/'gardens' is done primarily through the Mushroads - quick shortcuts through mushroom-shaped doors made for your convenience. The other town at the end of the road could be practically anything - in the game there's an underwater town, a forested area with a goddess in a fountain and a dark secret, and a town populated almost entirely by stressed office workers.

Since there are so many other gardens around, you're free to come up with whatever kind of town you'd like with whatever kind of facilities or events you desire. Some specific towns may be created or mentioned for events, but in general there's no limit to where you could have your character go, whether fun or frightening.

Special mention goes to the Night Market, only available by bus after the sun sets. There your character can buy anything malicious they need - curses, diseases, masks with vicious faces... But surely yours wouldn't abuse that power, right?

And the mayor?

The mayor's name is Michibiki. He's the one person who actually looks like a ghost here, wearing a white kimono and fading into nothingness from the waist down. He wears a mask with a strange black marking on it, but it's just a fashion statement... probably. He'll take it off to prove he has a face behind it, at least.

Despite being hard to get a grip on, Michibiki is a thoughtful and kind mayor, and he'll do what he can for the townspeople. If there's anything your character would particularly like in Farethere City, they can run it by him through the Requests page and he's likely to agree to it. Build a giant bouncy castle? Sounds fun! It'll be there by the next morning.

He tries to stay out of interpersonal conflicts, and he also won't help you figure out what's going on with those weird dreams or why that town you went to had giant eyes everywhere, or why you're suddenly sad for no reason (after your best friend left for the Path to Rebirth). But he's not a bad person. You could do a lot worse for mayors.

How much worse?

I'm not saying that some mod-run events could possibly involve a woman who wants to make her own personal garden a hell populated with suffering souls and who has her eyes on Farethere City's citizens in particular. Definitely not saying that. Nope.
